About Dr. Donald Burkhardt

Dr. Donald Burkhardt

Dr. Donald Burkhardt loves making people smile. Ever since he was a child, he saw how much of a difference his father, now a retired dentist, made in the lives of his patients and wanted to make the same kind of impact on those around him. After attending dental school, Dr. Burkhardt realized how much he enjoyed working with children and wanted the opportunity to improve the function and self-esteem of both children and adults. Being an orthodontist allows him to be on the cutting-edge of technology to produce outstanding smiles for every patient he meets.

Dr. Burkhardt feels so fortunate to come to work every day with such an amazing team. Each person works well as a team and takes care of our patients as if they were family. The teamwork and fun at the office is infectious to the point that he loves coming to work each and every day! Dr. Burkhardt is blessed for the opportunity to work with everyone on his team and his wonderful patients.

Education and Experience

Dr. Burkhardt is a native of Southeastern Michigan and attended De La Salle High School in Warren. Most of his undergraduate years were spent at the University of Michigan where he majored in biology and finished a year early. He then continued in the Michigan tradition by attending dental school in Ann Arbor, where he graduated in the top of his class, and then entered the distinguished Department of Orthodontics at the University of Michigan, receiving a Master of Science degree.

Dr. Burkhardt is currently an Adjunct Assistant Professor at theUniversity of Michigan Department of Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry and also participates in giving continuing education to dentists, hygienists, and their teams in our area. To ensure contemporary knowledge and stay on the cutting-edge in the latest innovations and techniques in the specialty of orthodontics, Dr. Burkhardt routinely attends continuing education seminars. His research interests include clinical studies of the treatment effects produced by the Herbst and Pendulum appliances that are used in the correction of overbites.

Professional Affiliations

Outside the Office

Dr. Burkhardt and his family reside in Okemos Michigan. Most of his free time is spent with his family, running the kids to their various activities including basketball, baseball, debate club and singing. When he has the chance, he is always happy to enjoy a good round of golf with friends and appreciates being outside in our beautiful Michigan summers.

Being active in the community allows Dr. Burkhardt to give back to the people who have been so good to him. He is very active in the St. Martha Catholic Parish and community, helping the church and people who are in need. Dr. Burkhardt also works with local schools with donations and going into schools to teach students about dental health.
